Putuo District People's Hospital has established the city's first marathon rehabilitation clinic, which is currently in trial operation and is expected to officially start operations in September.
The clinic is open all day on Tuesdays, with service hours from 8am to 8:30pm.
The clinic's treatment area spans about 100 square meters and is equipped with devices such as plantar pressure sensors, gait analyzers, low-frequency therapy devices, medium-frequency therapy devices and shockwave therapy.
The marathon rehabilitation clinic is located next to the traditional Chinese medicine rehabilitation night clinic, where patients can also undergo rehabilitation through traditional Chinese medical practices such as acupuncture and massage.
Marathon running is becoming a popular sport nationwide, but not everyone is suited for running. Everyone who visits our clinic can test whether they are suitable for marathon running, said Wang Lei, deputy director of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Department at Putuo District People's Hospital.
"As more and more people join marathon activities, incorrect running postures and inappropriate running shoes can lead to sports injuries. The purpose of establishing this marathon rehabilitation clinic is, on one hand, to provide runners with scientific guidance before participating in races to reduce injuries during sports, and on the other hand, to provide treatment from multidisciplinary doctors in orthopedics, rehabilitation and traditional Chinese medicine in case of accidental injuries during races, avoiding the need for patients to visit multiple hospitals," said Yao Zihan, deputy director of the Putuo hospital, in an interview with The Paper.
Yao added that the hospital's marathon sports rehabilitation clinic has already formed a treatment team of more than ten members, covering departments such as traditional Chinese medicine, rehabilitation and orthopedics, with plans to include more departments in the future. The treatment area is also expected to expand continuously.
