A: The three categories of overseas Chinese students refer to returned overseas Chinese youth, children of returned overseas Chinese and children of overseas Chinese in Chinese mainland.

Q: What are the certificates and documents needed for a marriage registration? A: In applying for marriage registration, both parties shall bring their personal registered residence booklets or certificates of the registered residence, ID cards (and Social Security Cards, if applicable) and three 2-inch, color, bareheaded couple photos taken recently. In applying for marriage registration, the marital status of any divorced party in his or her personal registered residence booklet or certificate of the registered residence shall be divorced.

A: Both parties of the marriage registration shall reach the legal age for marriage, namely, 22 for male and 20 for female. Both parties shall be of their own free will and have no spouse. There is no lineal descent or collateral consanguinity within three generations between both parties. Both parties are not considered unsuitable for marriage due to particular diseases. One party shall be a permanent resident in the district. Both parties shall go to the marriage registration authority in the place where one party’s permanent residence is located together to apply for marriage registration and shall not entrust an agent.

A: Returned overseas Chinese youth, children of returned overseas Chinese and children of overseas Chinese in Chinese mainland with permanent Shanghai residence are entitled to an appropriate amount of additional examination scores when applying for admission to junior college and undergraduate programs in regular institutions of higher learning and adult institutions of higher learning, and senior high schools (including secondary specialized school, vocational schools and technical schools).

A: The applicant must provide the following certifying documents of his/her status: a. Personal certificate of returned overseas Chinese; b. The certificate of returned overseas Chinese of his/her father (mother) and the certificate of relationship between the applicant and his/ her father (mother); c. The certifying document of the status of his/her father (mother) as overseas Chinese issued by Chinese embassies or consulates overseas and the notarial certificate or certificate of relationship between the applicant and his/her father (mother). Certificates of the status of returned overseas Chinese youth and children of returned overseas Chinese are to be issued by the SFROC, those of children of overseas Chinese in Chinese mainland by the OCAO of the district or county of domicile of the applicant and those of children in Shanghai of returned overseas Chinese from other provinces and cities by the Municipal Government OCAO.

A: The applicant must provide the following certifying documents of his/her status: a. Personal certificate of returned overseas Chinese; b. The certificate of returned overseas Chinese of his/her father (mother) and the certificate of relationship between the applicant and his/ her father (mother); c. A: Standard rates of tuition for temporary students from other provinces or municipalities shall by reference apply to those children coming to Shanghai for schooling at public schools assigned by the education bureau of the district or county of their domicile, if their parents are both overseas Chinese or HK or Macao residents or either party of their parents is an overseas Chinese of foreign nationality and the other party is an overseas Chinese or HK or Macao resident. Uniform standard rates of tuition of private secondary or primary schools in this Municipality shall apply to those coming for schooling at private secondary or primary schools.

A: The status of children of Chinese nationals residing abroad, overseas Chinese and Hong Kong and Macao residents is to be certified by the Municipal Government OCAO and the following certifying documents of status must be provided: a. Written application for receiving schooling in Shanghai; b. Personal ID and home visit permit (pass) of HK and Macao residents; Personal ID or status certifying documents of Chinese nationals residing abroad and overseas Chinese issued by Chinese embassies or consulates overseas; c. Permit of temporary residence in Shanghai (Residence permit for foreigners) of children coming to Shanghai for schooling; d. Notarial certificate or certificate of kinship with the children coming to Shanghai for schooling.

A: Schooling of the graduation level of senior high schools (equivalent to grade 6 of secondary school); under 25 full years of age; well-behaved; with no criminal record; unmarried; free from mental disorder or contagious diseases; in good health conditions. Including students who emigrated to HK, Macao or foreign countries from Chinese mainland.
