Running across northern downtown Shanghai, the new orbital line will connect five districts including Putuo, expanding the service reach and influence of Zhenru Urban Sub‑center, as multi‑layer transport infrastructure fuels vigorous growth across the area.
 
The Putuo section of Metro Line 20 stretches about 5.3 kilometers, covering five stations including Jiaotong Road, Shanghai West Railway Station, Zhenhua Road, Xincun Road, Pingli Road, plus the Zhenru Depot for train parking and inspection. 

Serving as a critical transport hub, Shanghai West Railway Station will realize in‑station transfers with Metro Lines 11 and 15, while offering convenient connections to Lines 7 and 14 nearby. The integrated hub will streamline transfers among intercity railways, urban metro, taxis, private‑vehicle parking and long‑distance buses, greatly upgrading its comprehensive transport capacity.
 
Beyond rail transit, Zhenru Urban Sub‑center is carrying out sweeping upgrades for both underground and surface traffic networks.

Beneath the ground, a 4.9‑kilometer‑long one‑way dual‑lane underground public vehicle passage is under construction in the core zone. 

Bounded by Zhenhua Road to the east, Nanzheng Road to the south, Lanxi Road to the west and Chaozhou Road to the north, the loop links 17 major land plots including Zhenru Unipark MAX and Sams Club, covering roughly 15,000 underground parking berths. 

According to officials from the Zhenru sub‑center project department, the underground corridor will improve traffic flexibility and lift the overall transport efficiency of Zhenru upon completion. Except for the "Heart of Zhenru" plot, the underground loop has achieved full breakthrough. 

Workers are now carrying out interior renovation, traffic sign installation, and building supporting digital systems including underground navigation and an integrated monitoring platform.
 
On the ground, a batch of new municipal roads have been opened to remove transport bottlenecks, including Zhenhua Rd S., Jingning Road, Nanzheng Road and Ningchuan Road. These arterial roads connect with Wuning Expressway and Tongchuan Road and lay solid infrastructure support for local urban development. 

The auxiliary lane of Zhenhua Rd S. (from Guangzhi Road to planned Fucun Road), which opened in February this year, extends 736 meters. It provides the main access for Putuo Science and Technology School Affiliated to Shanghai Normal University, whose junior high campus will welcome its first students this September. 

The newly‑built roadway is equipped with rainwater pipelines, street lighting, barrier‑free sidewalks and traffic signs, alongside multi‑level green belts forming scenic eco‑corridors. Construction of Guangzhi Road (from Nanshi No.1 Road to Caoyang Road), a 223‑meter urban branch road, is also in steady progress to improve accessibility for future residential compounds and office towers near the "Heart of Zhenru."
 
As the one‑hour metropolitan transport circle of the Yangtze River Delta gradually takes shape, underground passages enable seamless links between core business zones. The three‑tier transport system combining metro tunnels, underground vehicle corridors and ground streets is accelerating Zhenru Sub‑center's development, lifting both its spatial value and operational efficiency.

Danba Road Art Pier hosts vibrant summer waterfront lifestyle
 
A dynamic summer waterfront lifestyle season took place at Danba Road Art Pier since July 17. Open every Friday to Sunday through early August, the event activated riverside harbor pools, waterfront platforms and rooftop spaces with integrated outdoor sports, live music and trendy market activities.
 
Stand-up paddleboarding yoga, paddleball and pet paddleboarding allowed visitors to float calmly on the water and embrace summer breezes. Pet owners shared leisurely water experiences with their companions, creating relaxing and heartwarming waterfront scenes.
 
After sunset, live DJ performances lit up the pier. Visitors gathered to chat, toast and enjoy lively summer nightlife by the river. The multi-space venue presented diverse atmosphere, catering to casual relaxation, social gatherings and trendy entertainment.
 
Musical fountain show creates dreamy summer night scenes
 
As night falls, Top Central Park's musical water curtain fountain becomes the district's visual highlight.
 
Located on a 6,000-square-meter core lake area, the fountain features 389 nozzles capable of more than 10 water spray patterns synchronized with music, laser projections and surround sound. A 28-meter-wide, 10-meter-high fan-shaped water curtain spans the lake, with maximum water jets reaching 50 meters. Mist and light projections weave a dreamlike night landscape across the water.
 
Officially debuted during the May Day holiday and upgraded with new music playlists in July, the fountain runs regularly starting in August. Each 10-to-15-minute show features three customized music tracks, creating immersive audio-visual enjoyment for audiences on the lakeside viewing plaza and waterfront steps.
 
21-kilometer riverside lighting route brightens night journeys
 
Putuo's 21-kilometer Suzhou Creek waterfront landscape lighting system was put into operation in May, connecting Danba Road Pier to the Half-Marathon Suzhou Creek Park.
 
Different bridges feature gradient warm and colorful lighting, while pedestrian trails form flowing light tunnels for runners and walkers. The iconic illuminated "RUN" installation at Danba Road Pier has become a popular night landmark. Dynamic ripple floor screens and softly lit pedestrian overpasses create a cozy, non-glaring night environment.
 
Running every evening from 7pm to 9:30pm through October, the lighting route welcomes casual joggers, evening strollers and breeze chasers, releasing daytime heat and delivering soothing summer comfort.

Royal Caribbean will later display a large-scale model of Spectrum of the Seas at Global Harbor. The brand will set up a mini tennis court, feature a carousel from the Legend of the Seas rubber duck collection, and host family-friendly interactive sessions.
 
The event also expands beyond marine industries into low-altitude transportation. A one-to-two scale model of the M1 eVTOL air taxi is exhibited on the fourth floor. The domestically built 2-ton hybrid wing aircraft carries five passengers, runs purely on electricity, reaches a 250-kilometer range and a cruising speed of 200 km/h with full autonomous flight capability, demonstrating future urban air mobility.
 
The Putuo leg of the 2026 Shanghai International Cruise Season coordinates with the ongoing 6th Half-Marathon Suzhou Creek Cultural and Tourism Festival to draw visitors and boost consumption between waterfront attractions and commercial venues.  
 
Ding Zuohong, chairman of Yuexing Group, said Global Harbor partners with global participants each year to bring maritime exploration stories into daily life. Future plans include cross-sector marine, land and air collaborations to support the international cruise industry.

The facility will offer roughly 250 parking spaces, far exceeding the typical quota of around 100 at similar fitness complexes.

"Two underground levels have been designed to accommodate the parking demand. The maximum excavation depth of the foundation pit reaches 11 meters, bringing higher standards for safety control and deformation monitoring during deep foundation construction," Yu said.
 
Wanli Subdistrict authorities gathered public opinions extensively during planning, following the city's people-centered urban development philosophy. Officials hosted more than 30 consultation forums with experts, schools, sports professionals and residents, collecting over 800 valid questionnaires. A total of 121 suggestions covering sports services, daily amenities and project management were collected and adopted to refine the blueprint.
 
A community service dining area and mass activity center will be added on the first floor alongside reading spaces. Moreover, originally separated layouts on the third and fourth floors were reworked to create high-ceiling badminton and basketball courts to meet strong public demand for indoor team sports.

To cut approval time, Putuo authorities began reviewing applications even before the land transfer contracts were signed. Multiple departments, including those responsible for planning, construction, fire safety, and taxation, worked in parallel to streamline design reviews, permit issuance, tax payments, land handover, and property registration. The move reflects Putuo's efforts to shift from businesses having to navigate multiple government departments to a coordinated service model.

The two projects will also strengthen Top Smart City's semiconductor cluster. Oritek Semiconductor, on a 4,341-square-meter site, will establish the company's Shanghai R&D headquarters, focusing on system-level SoC chips and solutions for intelligent vehicles.

The 8,839-square-meter site will host a chip and semiconductor innovation service center for Zhipu Xinyuan. It will provide support for integrated circuit companies along the Shanghai-Nanjing Industrial Innovation Belt and help build an industrial ecosystem covering headquarters, R&D, packaging and testing, and application services.

Boosting consumption

During the festival, the Putuo district administration of culture and tourism will distribute vouchers via Alipay every Saturday, covering hotels, scenic spots, and movie tickets. The Putuo district commission of commerce will also introduce a cultural tourism card offering discounts at local stores.

Online, Taobao will launch the Suzhou Creek Summer Carnival, while brick-and-mortar shopping centers will host summer night parties and themed markets aligned with the Shanghai Summer International Consumption Season. EHi Car Services will offer car rental coupons. 

From August to December, the Yangtze River Delta Star premium tourist train will launch long-distance routes to Xinjiang, Northeast China, and Yunnan.

Waterfront cultural adventure

The From Yuan-Dynasty Water Gates to Waibaidu Bridge exhibition will debut on July 11, tracing the river's history. The Suzhou Creek Video Display Space will open in July as Shanghai's first image landmark focused on the city's mother river. In September, the Suzhou Creek Industrial Civilization Exhibition Hall will launch Night of Suzhou Creek featuring moonlight concerts.

Light, music, and crossover trends

The festival will feature the 3rd Shanghai International Light and Shadow Festival, a float parade, and the Favorite Top Central Park Music Carnival during the National Day holiday. Notably, crossover events such as the CCG Expo 2026 and the 18th Shanghai Games youth women's fencing competition will also take place in Putuo, turning the river into a continuous hub for cultural and consumption activities.

Teachers also stressed civilized nature observation rules, encouraging kids to watch insects from a distance. Transparent observation boxes are allowed for short-distance viewing, with all creatures to be released immediately after observation to foster a respectful and protective attitude toward nature.
 
After the theoretical session, young explorers split into small groups to search for insects across the park's flower beds, grassland and wooded areas. Guided by instructors, children carefully checked leaf backs, grass clusters and soil gaps, discovering ants, spotted ladybugs and various flying insects active in the evening. Teachers gave detailed explanations of each species children found, answering questions and sharing real-time ecological knowledge.
 
Many children overcame their fear of small creatures through hands-on exploration. Seven-year-old Dou Dou said he was fascinated by the patterns on ladybugs, describing the tiny insects as beautiful and lovely. Instead of rigid written records, kids documented insects' appearances, textures and behaviors through drawings and voice recordings on task cards, effectively improving their observation and expression skills.
 
The outdoor exploration was followed by an indoor popular science screening, which vividly demonstrated the complete metamorphosis process of ladybugs from larvae to adults. The dynamic video turned textbook knowledge into visual experience, captivating all the children. Instructors shared lesser-known facts about insect habits and life cycles. Families also received insect knowledge challenge games to continue nature learning at home, extending the fun of exploration beyond the on-site activity.
 
The insect exploration marks the second nature-themed event of Taopu's summer popular science program this year. A plant exploration activity was previously held in Chunguang Park, allowing children to observe and experience local plants including coneflowers, liriope, sweetgum and camphor trees through seeing, smelling and touching.
 
The summer public welfare series will launch more outdoor exploration and study activities in the future. The ongoing programs aim to help children get close to nature, learn ecological knowledge and cultivate environmental awareness amid the town's rich urban ecological resources.

Nearly 200 participants including representatives from investment promotion agencies and domestic and foreign business associations based in Shanghai as well as district-level commerce and investment promotion departments, key industrial parks, professional service institutions, and technology enterprises attended.

Highlights include the earliest known moving images of Waibaidu Bridge from 1898, shipping scenes from 1917-1919, 1927 waterfront life and 1935 aerial footage of the creek.

The Suzhou Creek Image Space is open from 9am to 5pm daily (last entry 4:30pm) and is closed on Mondays (except holidays). Admission is free and no reservation is required. The Suzhou Creek Industrial Civilization Exhibition Hall at 2690 Guangfu West Road operates from 8:30am to 4:30pm daily (last entry 4pm), and is also closed Mondays with free admission.
