Wangu Garden, a new riverside pocket park, opened to the public along the Half-Marathon Suhe section of Suzhou Creek recently, offering nearby residents an easily accessible urban green retreat.
 
Occupying more than 2,000 square meters at the northeast intersection of Shunyi Road and Shiwan Road, the park sits beside a natural bend of Suzhou Creek. Its design draws inspiration from the curved waterway, highlighted by a droplet-shaped pergola and a landmark sculpture bearing the Wangu Garden logo.
 
Landscaping balances local character and seasonal variety. The planting scheme features magnolia trees, a symbol of Shanghai, mixed with zelkova and American red maple. Layered trees and shrubs create rich foliage that shifts appearance through the year.
 
Built to serve all age groups, the public space meets diverse daily needs for surrounding schools and residential communities. Kids play freely under supervision. Elderly visitors stroll along shaded paths and chat on benches, and office workers find quiet spots to escape urban hustle.
 
The barrier-free green space integrates leisure, play and relaxation without requiring long-distance travel.
 
Local officials said the park enriches the Half-Marathon Suhe waterfront ecological corridor. Residents are invited to visit the compact riverside oasis and enjoy slower moments.
