From February 21 to 23 (the fifth to seventh days of the first lunar month), Putuo District will transform the riverside walkway at Tian An 1000 Trees into a vibrant new year market, while adjacent Moganshan Road Art District will feature pop-up song and dance performances.
The "Half-Marathon Suzhou Creek" Spring Festival Bazaar will bring together over 40 specialty stalls. Its centerpiece is a curated selection of intangible cultural heritage from cities along the Shanghai–Nanjing Industrial Innovation Belt, including Nanjing velvet flowers, Changzhou winding silk flowers, Suzhou embroidery, Wuxi Huishan clay figurines, Nantong blue calico, Yangzhou tongcao flowers, Zhenjiang aromatic vinegar, and Taizhou paper cutting.
In addition, local heritage crafts such as bamboo weaving and tatting will be showcased, as well as beloved treats and folk crafts from across China - Beijing sugar-coated hawthorns, Sichuan sugar painting, Shandong dough figurines, and Jinnan flip flowers. Hotels including Atwell Suites Shanghai Wuning, Moxy Shanghai Hongqiao, and Metropolitan Residence will present co-branded merchandise and specialty snacks.
Synchronized with the market, the Moganshan Road Art District will stage a series of viral pop-up song and dance performances. Each afternoon from February 21 to 23, dance crews will perform impromptu and interact with visitors at various spots within Tian An 1000 Trees—outdoors, at the main entrance, on the second floor, and in the atrium. The setlist includes global hits such as “Levitating,” “Shake It Off,” and “That That.”
The event’s main venue, Grand Classic · Tian An 1000 Trees, is itself a unique Shanghai landmark that blurs the line between shopping mall and scenic destination. Designed by British architect Thomas Heatherwick, the building features cascading terraces and over 1,000 trees, creating a vertical “forest in the sky.” The project deeply integrates industrial heritage preservation, retaining the historic structures of the former Fufeng Fuxin Flour Mill, and permanently displays works by artists including Daniel Arsham and Zhang Enli.
