Boke Foundation showcases gamified climate education at COP30 event

December 03, 2025 |

The Boke Foundation was invited as the sole Chinese philanthropic organization representative to participate in the "Capacity-building Hub: Pitch Perfect - building the voices for the future of climate action" side event at the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The foundation presented its innovative solution in climate change education—the gamified educational project “SDG HERO.”

The "Pitch Perfect" event aimed to identify and promote innovative capacity-building solutions for addressing climate change through a creative competition format, providing a platform for global youth and practitioners.

Initiated by Putuo-based Boke Technology, Boke Foundation, with its unique "gamified learning" approach, offered an effective solution to bridge the global climate education gap and empower the next generation to become active changemakers.

“SDG HERO” is a tabletop game toolkit themed around the sustainable development goals. Through role-playing, task completion, and co-creation game sessions, it transforms complex knowledge of sustainable development and climate change into an engaging, educational experience.

"Students not only acquire knowledge through the game but also develop critical thinking, teamwork, and practical problem-solving skills, shifting from passive recipients of information to active problem-solvers and creative designers," said Lin Yuqin, global partnership director of Boke Foundation.

The project places special emphasis on supporting educators by offering a "Game Master" training system, allowing them to easily integrate related activities into their classrooms. All toolkits are provided under an open-source model, allowing educators to download and use them free of charge.

To date, over 1,500 educators from more than 50 countries have joined the initiative, impacting over 70,000 young people worldwide through “SDG HERO.”
