Blue rays to get a new home at Shanghai Changfeng Ocean World

September 02, 2025 |

Shanghai Changfeng Ocean World plans to relocate hundreds of rays to a new home in the main pavilion once the "Octonauts" licensing agreement expires.

The life-support systems and habitats are currently being upgraded to provide a more natural and sustainable environment for the rays.

Central to this transition is the highly anticipated "Ray Starry Sky" immersive experience, which combines advanced lighting technology with aquatic landscapes. The graceful movements of the rays will captivate visitors against a backdrop of sparkling light, evoking the sensation of traveling through an underwater galaxy.

On Sunday, the aquarium invited children from the Children's Hospital of Shanghai to play the role of "little caretakers," experiencing the delight of feeding rays up close. The children also made innovative paintings for the rays.

The new "Ray Starry Sky" will be launched later this month. Visitors can also participate in a variety of educational programs that offer new ways to explore, discover, and appreciate the wonders of the ocean.
