From July 11 to 13, the 2025 "Half-Marathon Suzhou Creek" Shanghai Rowing Urban Elite Competition will be held at the Suzhou Creek Water Sports Center.
The event has attracted 36 rowing teams from 10 cities across China, bringing together nearly 400 rowing enthusiasts along the banks of Suzhou Creek. Teams composed of corporate elites, club members, medical workers, firefighters, and other professionals will showcase the sporting spirit of diverse occupational groups. Additionally, several prestigious universities will compete, while the inclusion of a youth division marks a major breakthrough—for the first time in history, over 100 young rowers will race on Suzhou Creek, signaling a key step toward making water sports more inclusive and youth-oriented.
Suzhou Creek holds a special place in China's rowing history. In 1863, the "Shanghai Rowing Club" was established here, marking the beginning of a century-long tradition of water sports in Shanghai. In 2021, the Shanghai Rowing Regatta made its return to Suzhou Creek. Now, with the official opening of the Suzhou Creek Water Sports Center, nearly 2 kilometers of open water will serve as a new venue for future aquatic events.
To enhance the spectator experience, the organizing committee has introduced a real-time data system and a digital viewing platform for the first time. Spectators can access live race links via NFC-enabled signage or QR codes around the venue, tracking real-time metrics such as stroke rate and pacing, while professional commentary provides tactical insights.
