TOP Central Park lotus exhibition blooms with cultural splendor

July 01, 2025 |

A lotus exhibition officially opened at TOP Central Park in Putuo District on June 30, presenting a summer spectacle that masterfully blends classical aesthetics with contemporary design.

This floral extravaganza promises visitors a dual feast of visual delight and cultural enrichment throughout its run until July 15, with peak bloom expected around July 6.

Upon entering the park, visitors are greeted by an enchanting prelude. Over 20 celadon lotus urns arranged in graceful procession, while hundreds of inverted oil-paper umbrellas dance gently in the breeze.

The journey continues through watery lanes before revealing the exhibition's stunning centerpiece - a main viewing area where a dozen dark mortise-and-tenon wooden frames, inspired by traditional "moon gate" architecture, create an artful sequence of viewing corridors. These architectural elements frame exquisite bowl lotus varieties in water lily urns, accompanied by refreshing fountain displays that offer respite from the summer heat.

The central lake area transforms into a living painting, employing classic Chinese garden design principles of "scenery that changes with every step." Meandering bridges, lotus pavilions, and waterside gazebos compose an immersive landscape that invites contemplation and photography.

Breaking from conventional aquatic plant displays, this exhibition showcases over 2,000 potted lotuses representing more than 40 varieties. "Potted displays allow us to rotate specimens at their blooming peak while enabling closer public appreciation," explained Xu Lei, technical director of Putuo Landscape Development Company.

The curation intentionally incorporates scholarly accoutrements like ink brushes, inkstones, and writing desks, weaving traditional literati culture into modern park experiences and establishing TOP Central Park as a must-visit lotus destination.
