Putuo District has officially released its digital-health industry map targeting a 100-billion-yuan industrial cluster, marking the rise of a major economic engine centered on smart healthcare and digital health technologies.

Taopu area serves as the core hub for this ambitious cluster, anchored by the Tongji University-inspired Digital Health Innovation Center. The zone integrates over ten specialized industrial parks including Future Island High-Tech Park, Xinyang Industrial Park, Kangpeng Life Science Park, and Taopu Health Innovation Park.

During preliminary market research and investment promotion, Future Island High-Tech Park identified domestic substitution of high-end medical devices as a key emerging sector. The park has already attracted industry leaders like PushMed, Nantels, and EVScientia‌‌.

To support full-cycle development of med-tech enterprises, the park is establishing the "Torch" Med Valley—a 10,000 sqm facility featuring regulatory-compliant office spaces, adaptable warehouses, and dedicated R&D zones for medical device innovation.

Strategically positioned at the northern starting point of the Shanghai-Nanjing Industrial Innovation Corridor, Taopu is pioneering a "front-end R&D, back-end production" model where research headquarters remain in Shanghai while manufacturing expands to neighboring regions.

To facilitate this approach, Tongji University Science and Technology Park has partnered with Taopu to launch a 5,000 sqm life science incubation base and a public R&D platform opening access to more than 200 analytical instruments from Tongji Medical College and its laboratory animal research center.
