Putuo set to complete 21km riverside light art installation

April 09, 2025 |

The fourth phase of the Suzhou Creek (Putuo section) riverside landscape lighting project, representing the final installment of the waterfront illumination along this stretch, recently commenced construction and is scheduled for completion within the year.

Upon finishing, this will mark the completion of the 21-kilometer "Light and Shadow Art Corridor" along the Putuo riverbank - which accounts for half of Suzhou Creek's 42km total length - allowing the waterway to shine with renewed brilliance after dark.

Spanning about 4.5 kilometers from the west side of Luding Road Bridge to the Jiading District boundary at Jingyang Road's southern bank, this phase focuses on enhancing landscape lighting for embankments and multiple waterfront parks. The artistic "Birdsong and Floralfume" installations will be preserved and extended, while cultural tourism spots like the Changfeng Park wharf and Danba Road wharf for Suzhou Creek cruise boats will receive lighting upgrades.

Notably, the Half-Marathon Suzhou Creek Park located along this section will see special enhancements. The Putuo District Landscaping & City Appearance Bureau plans to retain four lighting installations from the inaugural International Light Festival while adding thematic sculptures and interactive screens at seven park entrances. The project will also optimize nighttime illumination for internal pathways and bridges, creating dedicated night-running lighting modes.
