OCS chip project sets a benchmark for ‘industrial upstairs’ in Putuo

January 16, 2025 |

Shanghai Orient Chip Semiconductor Co Ltd's chip R&D and manufacturing construction project has been selected for Shanghai's third batch of "Industrial Upstairs" quality projects, becoming the first successful case in Putuo District.

Promoting “industrial upstairs” and creating smart manufacturing spaces is an essential way to overcome the constraints of industrial development space. In the densely populated central district of Shanghai, "industrial upstairs" is a sustainable path to advance new industrialization, expand manufacturing development space, and accelerate industrial agglomeration.

The OCS project, located in Putuo's Taopu Smart City, has a total investment of 600 million yuan (US$81.86 million). Once operational, it is expected to generate an annual industrial output value of 500 million yuan.

The project focuses on national strategic product needs, building advanced specialty processes and semiconductor manufacturing processes to form a comprehensive R&D and manufacturing base for integrated circuits.

Upon completion, the project will be used for the R&D, design, packaging, testing, production, and sales of magnetic sensors and high-performance analog-digital hybrid chips. This type of industry aligns well with the "light production, low noise, environmentally friendly" requirements of “industrial upstairs.”

Additionally, since chip design and testing equipment have relatively low floor load requirements, we prioritized this project as a key initiative for Putuo's “industrial upstairs,” said an official from the Industry Section of Putuo District Commerce Commission.
