Eight medical staff members of the Putuo District medical aid team to Xizang, who had just returned to Shanghai for vacation, immediately ended their leave and rushed to the earthquake-stricken area with emergency medical supplies and medicines on the afternoon of January 8 after a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Tingri County in the Xizang Autonomous Region the previous day.
The eight team members come from the Central Hospital of Putuo District, People's Hospital of Putuo District, and Liqun Hospital of Putuo District, and are composed of backbone doctors from departments such as emergency medicine, neurosurgery, and general surgery.
Upon learning about the earthquake, Chu Jie, the team head and deputy director of Liqun Hospital, promptly inquired about the situation locally and convened the team members to prepare for their return to Xizang.
Fan Qiang, a member of the medical aid team and a senior doctor of the emergency department at Liqun Hospital, said: "Previously, the medical team had already spent half a year in Xizang and has developed a deep affection for the people of Xizang. As an emergency physician and also a critical care doctor, I want to use my professional strengths to save more patients."
