Rhenus's Dr Ewig honored with 2024 Shanghai Magnolia Silver Award

Dr Marcus Ewig, chairman of Rhenus Automotive (Shanghai) Holding Co Ltd, a key foreign-funded enterprise in Putuo District, has been awarded the 2024 Shanghai Magnolia Silver Award.

Born in Germany in 1972, Dr. Ewig is an international expert in the fields of automotive, smart manufacturing, Industry 4.0, battery lifecycle management and international economic relations.

Since becoming CEO of Rhenus's German headquarters in 2017, Dr. Ewig has actively promoted the establishment of Rhenus Automotive's China headquarters in Putuo Shanghai in 2019. By the end of 2023, Rhenus's total investment in China has reached 200 million yuan (US$27.55 million), creating over 500 jobs. In 2024, Rhenus was recognized as a multinational company division headquarters.

Dr. Ewig is also highly focused on the development of a green, low-carbon economy. In the field of power battery recycling and reuse, a key concern in the current new energy sector, he plans to establish a new business unit in Shanghai. Using Rhenus Automotive as a platform, he aims to introduce Europe's most advanced battery recycling and reuse technologies into the Chinese market, setting up a benchmark enterprise in the industry. The collaborative project is expected to involve an investment of over 200 million yuan, achieve an annual revenue of over 100 million yuan and create about 100 new jobs.
