Light festival dazzles Putuo residents with unique shows

September 25, 2024 |

The inaugural Shanghai International Light Festival kicked off recently, offering not only long-distance light shows but also many new close-up options for residents in Putuo to enjoy the light and shadow performances.

Every evening, as night falls, elegant music wafts through the Peninsula Garden in Putuo District. On the artificial rock of Zhujia Bay, projections of two Peking Opera characters are cast above. At the same time, a light show called "Green Reflections on the Screen" is brilliantly staged on the community walls and the square.

This unique green light show unfolds like a fan. Viewed from above, the wall momentarily features babbling brooks, swaying green trees and blossoming lotus flowers, while the water sleeves waved on the rock tell a moving story; on the small square, the light and shadows merge into a pond of azure waves where red carps swim about.

On the opposite side of the Suzhou Creek, at the Taixin Jiayuan Xikang Road Bridge, another serene light landscape captivates onlookers. The oleander bushes are dotted with soft light spots, sprinkling over the tree shadows, resembling countless fireflies flitting through the branches.

In addition to these creatively designed landscape lights, next to building 13 in Peninsula Garden, there is a unique set of light and shadow equipment that not only projects various light shows but also precisely identifies the footsteps of residents, creating interesting interactive effects.

Putuo District will launch a sub-venue opening ceremony themed "Dream Voyage Through Time" on September 30. From September 30 to October 7, every day from 6:30pm to 10pm, there will be light and shadow art displays at landmarks such as the Half Marathon Suzhou Creek Park, M50 Creative Park, Global Harbor and Haina Park, along with interactive light installations for public engagement, allowing residents to experience the charm of light and shadow firsthand.
