The 20th Shanghai Suzhou Creek Dragon Boat Invitational Tournament was held at the weekend in the waters of Brilliant City Mengqing Garden, with over 700 rowers from 36 teams competing for championships in different categories.

After two days of competition, the Ningbo Qingling Commerce Chamber Dragon Boat Team won the championship in the elite category, while the Vladivostok Tiger Dragon Boat Team from Russia clinched the championship in the international category. Liaocheng University Dragon Boat Team and Nantong Dragon Boat Association North Wing 99 Dragon Boat Team respectively took the championships in the university and public categories.

"We started preparing six months in advance upon learning that we were invited to compete in Shanghai," said Kirill Sevchenko, a member of the Vladivostok Tiger Dragon Boat Team, which won the championship on their first participation.  "Rowing while enjoying the scenery along the coast was a pleasure. If there's another opportunity next year, I would like to participate again."

A representative from the competition's organizing committee said that this year's race tracks were adjusted from four 8-meter-wide lanes to three 10-meter-wide lanes, providing a better racing experience for the competitors.

The event featured specially crafted commemorative dragon heads with unique significance. The main body of the dragon heads was in traditional Chinese colors, with orange representing the city's vitality and red symbolizing courage and advancement.
