Shanghai Putuo Center for Disease Control and Prevention was formed in December ,1999 on the basis of integration of the previous District Health and Epidemic Prevention Station, District Tuberculosis Control Institute , District STD Prevention and Control Center and District Cancer Prevention and Control Office. It covers an area of 14.9 mu with the building area up to 12500 square meters.
Putuo Center for Disease Control and Prevention is a core public health professional institute for the implementation of regional disease prevention and control functions, and also a technical support body to organize the implementation of the district's disease prevention and control under the leadership of the District Health and Family Planning Commission and under the guidance of Shanghai Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention. It is responsible for the disposal of sudden health events, disease surveillance and control, health education, disease prevention and detection, hygienic evaluation and other functions.
The center sets up 6 functional departments for office, integrated business, personnel and security, quality management, administration and finance and 10 business departments including infectious disease control, STD and AIDS prevention and control, immunization planning management, disinfection and vector control, health information, prevention and control of chronic non-infectious diseases, health education and promotion, environmental health, occupational health and laboratory.
In recent years, the center has acted as the practice and teaching base for many universities and colleges including Public Health School of Fudan University, Medical School of Tongji University, West China School of Public Health Sichuan University, Shanghai Staff Medical College and Shanghai Public Health School.
For the last few years, the center, its departments and individuals have won many honorable titles respectively including National Advanced Collective for AIDS Prevention and Control Work , Shanghai Labor Model Collective, March 8 Red Banner Collective, Most Satisfactory Unit for Employees, Heroine Civilized Post ,Youth Civilization Unit , Shanghai New Long March Pace-setter, March 8 Red Banner Pacesetters, and May-4th Youth Medal.
