Founded in 1964, Shanghai Putuo Mental Health Center is a district hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, research, prevention and rehabilitation. In 1992, it put up Putuo Red Cross Care Hospital upon the psychiatric specialty. After decades of continuous development, the hospital has evolved into a district prevention and control center for psychological and mental disease. Currently, the hospital rank high among shanghai district level mental health centers in respect of hospitalization size, medical facilities and health care strength. It is honored as the civilized unit in Shanghai municipal health system, Putuo district civilized unit and Shanghai municipal “Garden Unit".
With complete clinical departments, the hospital mainly admits patients with schizophrenia, affective disorder, organic mental disorder and other heavy mental diseases. It specially invited professionals from Shanghai mental health centers to guide the discipline construction of the hospital. Driven by the discipline construction projects, currently the hospital has gathered a vibrant force of scientific research and medical team in the following eight disciplines: schizophrenia, child and adolescent psychiatry, psychiatric drugs, affective disorders, neurosis (personality disorder, psychosomatic disease), psychiatric symptoms and somatic disease, senile mental disorders and psychiatric pathological symptoms.
Instruction Centre for Children`s Mental Health was officially opened for medical treatment in November, 2011. The center is an independent single building with two floors of about 200 square meters usable floor area. The first floor is a children's activity center which consists of sensory integration training place and fine motor training place. Activity facilities such as ocean ball pool are specifically set up for children. The second floor includes psychological evaluation room, psychological consultation and therapeutic room and sand table therapeutic room, providing targeted rehabilitation trainings and various advanced hardware equipment to satisfy different treatment needs of different children. Bright, cheerful and relaxed medical treatment environment is helpful for children patients to adapt to the environment and receive treatment.
