No.2 Secondary School Attached to Tongji University is a full-time system public school which was founded through joint efforts by Tong Ji University and Putuo District Committee and Government in June 2002. In 2007, the school was awarded the Experimental and Demonstrative Middle School in Putuo District.

Since the school was founded, with the support of Tongji University, the school has creatively promoted the spirit of Pulling Together in times of troubles, Exerting and striving hardwithoutanyletup, fully interpreted the school notion that science and arts are developing harmoniously, and focused on the two characteristic areas: International Cultural Exchange and Science and Technology Education. By setting up Bioengineering Lab, Environmental Science Lab, and 3S Creativity Lab, the school is dedicated to building up an innovative group of teachers and students in various areas, aiming to cultivate the exploring spirit of science and technology.

The school has 30 classes (including one international student class), 1096 students and 105 teachers, 39% of who hold post graduate and doctor degree certificate, and 40% of who are Master Teachers and Special Grade Senior Teachers.

As one of high-quality schools in the district, the school has already won more than 200 honors and awards, for instance, the Demonstrative School in UNESCO-project on Education for Sustainable Development in China (ESD), the Experimental School of National Creative Education, Shanghai Model Unit, Shanghai Model School of Science and Technology Education.
