It has been honored with titles such as the National Quality Balanced Development District for Compulsory Education, the National Popularization and Benefit District for Preschool Education (the only central urban district in the city to be awarded both), the first batch of National Science Education Experimental Districts for Primary and Secondary Schools, the National School-Family-Community Collaborative Education Experimental District, and the National Youth Football Talent Cultivation Reform Pilot District (only two districts in the city).
Putuo District has a total of 164 educational institutions, including 82 kindergartens (including early education guidance centers), 71 primary and secondary schools (24 primary schools, 11 junior high schools, 25 schools covering grade 1 to grade 9, 7 schools covering grade 6 to grade 12, and 4 high schools), and 11 other educational units and various centers (2 special education schools, 1 specialized school, 1 district vocational school, 1 part-time university, 1 education institute, and 5 educational centers).
The district currently has approximately 105,500 students in public and private primary, secondary, and kindergarten schools. Among them, in public schools, there are 15,300 preschoolers, 39,000 primary school students, 27,000 junior high school students, 11,000 high school students, 239 special education students, and 1,873 vocational students, totaling 94,300 students; in private schools, there are 3,224 preschoolers, 3,605 primary school students, 3,712 junior high school students, and 627 high school students, totaling 11,200 students.
The district has a total of 12,800 teaching staff (10,200 permanent ones), including 9,874 full-time teachers. By category, there are 1,086 high school teachers, 2,833 junior high school teachers, 3,431 primary school teachers, 2,060 preschool teachers, 116 special education teachers, and 348 other teachers from the Education Institute and Caoyang Vocational School.
