Chinese student in Japan organizes virus donation drive

A resident of Ganquan Road Sub-district of Putuo District, who is studying in Japan, has organized donations to support the fight against the novel coronavirus outbreak in central China’s Hubei Province.


Chen Jiayi studying for her PhD degree at Nagoya University and members of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology in Japan had collected 128,029.85 yuan (US$18,289.86) in donations as well as medical supplies, with a total value of more than 10,000 yuan, by February 10. The supplies have been delivered to Central Hospital of Huanggang in Hubei, the epicenter of the outbreak.


Chen, vice chairwoman of the CASTJP’s Nagoya University branch, has contacted its branches in nine other leading universities in Japan, including University of Tokyo, for donations. Chen, who studied at Shanghai Normal University in 2007, has been studying in Japan for nine years.


Chen’s team plans to buy another batch of medical supplies for E’gang Hospital in E’zhou of Hubei.
