Putuo runner Xu Zhouzheng is a rising new star in the Chinese track field after coming third in the 100-meter race qualification trial for the 2019 International Association of Athletics Federations World Championships.
The first and second places were taken, respectively, by Xie Zhenye and Su Bingtian, who have already won gold medals in previous international competitions.
Xu said that he looked up to the two athletes and hopes to be like them some day.
Xu has been breaking his own records since 2016 when he won the 100 sprint at the National Athletics Championship in 10.29 seconds. He ran 10.12 seconds – a personal best – to win the 100-meter preliminary race at La Chaux-de-Fonds Athletics in his latest feat.
