The Shanghai Chess Institution unveiled its Putuo branch on Sunday. Officials from the city sports bureau as well as the district government attended the opening ceremony.
Located at No. 258 Lanxi Road, the branch takes up an area of 1,700 square meters and will serve as a comprehensive intelligence sports center.
Putuo has been promoting chess over the past years and was honored as the “national hometown of chess” in 2017.
Multiple national chess competitions are held here while the district’s Zhenru Temple opens its chess court to the public every week.
