Sanguantang market in Zhenru, Putuo, which used to be the largest poultry and eggs wholesale market in Shanghai, has been demolished and cleared recently to make way for a commercial office center in the future.
The market, covering an area of more than 20 mu (1.33 hectares), used to play an important role in the city’s project to guarantee the non-staple food supply.
As a part of the regional layout to upgrade the construction, the market has been shut down since 2016, while work to tear down the structures started at the end of last year and has just been concluded.
The land lot has been taken into the bigger picture along with the Tongchuan fishery market that was closed down earlier. Together they are set to become a part of Zhenru city sub-center after renovation.
