Shiquan Sub-district in Putuo has found a way of transferring food materials to local communities, resolving an inconvenience caused by wet markets being too far away.
The project started last July. Vegetables are now delivered directly from the fields to selling spots in the community. The direct sales method, without any middlemen, has lowered the prices while, at the same time, vegetables are fresher.
It has now become a part of “15-minute life circle” for residents, which has been put into practice in eight residential complexes, serving more than 69,000 people.
Volunteers are arranged to deliver the vegetables for seniors living alone, who have trouble walking.
