A shared refrigerator was installed in Changzheng Town’s new charity market when it was opened on Monday.
As a public welfare project, the fridge was jointly set up by the town community fund and an NGO Shanghai Green Food Bank.
The smart fridge is equipped with a mini screen and an upgraded system to make the operation easier. Residents can put their extra food in the fridge for those in need to take, which can also help reduce food waste.
The new charity market runs in a more organized way with a clear record of donators and the use of the donated items.
While guaranteeing the supply for the charity goods, the market will also try to protect the privacy.
Changzheng plans to introduce more such social welfare projects.
