The 2nd Shanghai International 10K Race is to kick off in Putuo on October 29, the organizer, Donghao Lansheng, said on Wednesday.
The event will involve a mass race group of 5,400 runners and a family section for 600 runners. The top winner will be awarded 8,000 yuan (US$1,214).
The 10K race is two weeks earlier than Shanghai International Marathon so many participants use it as a warm-up event.
Its numbers are expected to swell this year due to the half-marathon event being cancelled.
Donghao Lansheng, who is also a Shanghai International Marathon organizer, said the top eight 10K event participants can qualify for the marathon.
The 10K race will be telecast live on TV and other mobile platforms.
