Illegal stalls erased to make way for light rail project

A strip of roadside stalls built without a license along Bailan Road was torn down recently to make room for an urban light rail, Putuo officials said.

The stalls, totaling more than 2,000 square meters of floor space, were rented by 22 grimy eateries with cooking gas cylinders and other stuffs blocking the emergency exit and posing a threat to safety.

The district urban management department formed a taskforce to carry out the demolition and resettle the tenants. It will take action to remove illegal structures on Kaixuan Road to improve the environment of the district.
