The 2017 Shanghai Startup Competition kicked off last Saturday in Putuo’s Universal Software Park. Contestants and people from venture capital firms, industrial parks, and business incubators attended the event opening.
Putuo had 233 startup projects entered in the competition which closed on Wednesday. Winners were selected to give road shows to potential investors and business partners.
The competition put an emphasis on innovation and original technology. Winners are eligible for government support in funding, space rental, and services, said the Putuo Science and Technology Commission, a co-organizer of the competition.
The district has promoted innovation-driven economic growth for years, giving priority to the development of software, IT, biomedicine, new materials and other emerging industries. More than 2,000 innovative companies have moved to Putuo.
