Yu Jingzi, the head nurse of Putuo District Hospital, was recently named “China’s Most Beautiful Volunteer” in 2016.
With 25 years of working experience in the hospital, Yu has set a good example for her colleagues by serving as a volunteer, donating her bone marrow to a leukemia patient, joining the fight against the SARS epidemic in 2003, and rescuing victims of the deadly Sichuan earthquake in 2008.
She set up a volunteer team in 2011. More than 1,400 people, including patients, teachers, students and retirees, have worked in her team and helped about 30,000 people with all kinds of difficulties.
Yu thinks that professional nurses should get more involved in welfare activities and she tries to mobilize more volunteers through lectures and social media.
