On the afternoon of January 7, 2021, a delegation, led by the French Consul General in Shanghai Benoît Guidée; French Commissioner for Language, Education and Higher Education Cooperation in Shanghai (Education Consul) Séverine Boué; and French Commissioner for Educational Cooperation in Beijing Frédérique Pénilla, visited Shanghai Ganquan Foreign Language Middle School to award the FrancÉducation certificate. Tang Xiaoyan, deputy director of Putuo District’s education bureau, attended the certification ceremony.
Headmaster Yang Yun introduced to the Consul General and his entourage the school’s development with unique characteristics, the construction of the French language discipline, and the exchanges between Chinese and French youths. Consul General Guidée, speaking in fluent Chinese, affirmed the school’s outstanding achievements in French education and teaching, encouraging teachers and students to take French education and learning to a higher level, and make more contributions to Sino-French friendship. After the ceremony, Tang, on behalf of the district education bureau, thanked the French Consulate for its strong support to education in Putuo, in general, and to the school’s French teaching, in particular, and looked forward to maintaining good communication with the French Consulate to strengthen and enrich Sino-French cultural exchanges and enhance the education of international exposure in the district.
The Consul General had a full exchange with students in the French class. The students showed their extensive knowledge and excellent language skills, and presented flowers and calligraphy works to the guests to express their gratitude and blessings for the long-lasting friendship between China and France. Afterwards, the Consul General and his entourage listened to a French teaching class. With the support of the French Consulate, the district education bureau and other social forces, French teaching at Shanghai Ganquan Foreign Language Middle School will surely achieve great results and add new chapters to the school’s development.
The FrancÉducation certification is issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France to schools with the best quality of bilingual (one of which is French) teaching. After strict evaluation, Shanghai Ganquan Foreign Language Middle School received the FrancÉducation certification in 2019, becoming one of only eight schools in China with the qualification, and the second high school in Shanghai to obtain this certificate.
