On the morning of December 3, the China-Israel Innovation Hub (CIIH (Shanghai)), the core of the two countries’ innovation cooperation, celebrated the first anniversary of its foundation as well as the opening ceremony of the 2020 Shanghai Digital Innovation Conference in Taopu Smart City, Putuo District. Huang Wei, vice minister of Science and Technology, and Ami Appelbaum, chairman of the Israel Innovation Authority, delivered speeches in the presence of many other important members of the government.

The ceremony witnessed the launch of several ventures, including the cooperation project by 360 Group and the Putuo District government, and the Yangtze River Delta China-Israel Innovation Network set up by institutions from Shanghai as well as Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. The CIIH (Shanghai), together with the International Digital Security and Ecological Operation Center, signed cooperation contracts with enterprises housed in the hub, including CSA GCR, Angeek Cyber Security, 360 Vision, Redstone Data, Shanghai Tower, etc.

In just one year, the CIIH (Shanghai) has become one of the 26 specialized industrial zones in Shanghai and has gathered 32 China-Israeli cooperative enterprises, institutions, and projects, gradually transforming into a demonstration industrial zone featuring artificial intelligence and robotics, healthcare and bioscience, Internet and information technology.

A strong agglomeration effect was embodied in the fruitful results of intellectual property. The CIIH (Shanghai) now owns more than 100 intellectual properties, including 37 valid trademarks, 22 utility model patents, 68 software registrations, 19 inventions, five patents for utility models, one appearance patent, and one appearance patent under application. Another 10 patent applications are under preparation.

Despite the influence of the COVID-19 epidemic, the CIIH (Shanghai) has maintained its vitality, with its innovation competitions and various programming contests attracting social attention. In the future, the hub will continue to create an ecology for incubation, facilitate international innovation cooperation, and give full play to its pivotal role in the application and transfer of innovation results in the Yangtze River Delta region.
